Tofu Burgers ~ Tofu Patties

>> Saturday, July 4, 2009

Not only is this a nutritious and low fat recipe, but it's also easy, fast and Vegan. Tofu burgers make a great light lunch and I bet you have all the ingredients in your kitchen.

Your ingredients:
50 grams Tofu
1/2 small bell pepper finely chopped (what ever colour you prefer)
10 grams (about 1/8 cup)of onion, finely chopped
50 grams (about 1/4 cup)bread crumbs , plus extra
1 Teaspoon soy sauce
1 pinch each of salt, black pepper, garlic powder, oregano, dry basil, and Cayenne powder or chili powder. (optional)

1. In a large bowl combine Tofu, bell pepper, soy sauce and spices. With your hands keep mixing the ingredients until the Tofu breaks up.
2. start adding your bread crumbs, combining thoroughly all the ingredients. Add as much bread crumbs that you need until the mixture sticks together so that you can form your patties and they don't fall apart. If you need to add a little water to the mixture to help it become more sticky.

3. Add about 1 Tablespoon of vegetable oil to a frying pan over medium heat, once warm add your patties and cook on each side for about 6 minutes or until they are brown on both sides.

You can serve on a burger bun as you would a hamburger or serve just the patties with small salad. I like to eat mine simply with a slice of whole grain, dark bread on the side. Delicious~

If anyone has a Tofu Burger recipe they want to share, please do so. I would like to experiment a little more with them.
